One of the things about Public Safety is that nobody wants to release any data to the public, but study after study shows that people are actually comforted by knowing what the "real" situation is. Our neighborhood, for example, is very safe, having few violent incidents and the majority of crime being auto burglaries. It is fear of the unknown and hearsay that sacres citizens into beleiving that they aren't safe in their neighborhoods.
In this section you can find information about the NOPD, our security patrol, and other public safety measures.
Some General Crime Information On-line
http://citizencrimewatch.org/ -- This site has a useful crime map, that while it is not comprehensive, does give a 85-90% picture of crime in our area and the city as a whole.
http://cno-gisweb02.cityofno.com -- This is the City's official crime mapping site. It's relatively up to date but is hard to use.
Click here to download the NOPD Second District Hot Sheet. Hot Sheets are used by the Second District to identify areas where illegal activities are occurring, have occurred or where potential problems exist. This would be not just criminal activity, but any activity affecting quality of life issues as well - excessive noise, abandones vehicles or houses, street lights or crime cameras, dumping of trash, etc.
